[[Deep Work - Cal Newport]] argues (rightly) that pushing emails and the day-to-day reactive and responsive work that takes our time away from deep work is labelled a 'productivity' but it is not. As we encourage everyone to embrace "everyday assistants" (with AI) - these new automations are designed to support and help these more repetitive and connectivity based actions - the ultimate benefit being *Productivity.* But are we looking at this as "great, I can do my emails and meeting notes and project plans faster - therefore I am productive" ? - if so, then all we have succeed in doing is make the shallow work a bit easier.
